An adhesive is any substance applied to one surface, or both surfaces, of two separate items that binds them together and resists their separation.

The use of adhesives offers many advantages over binding techniques such as sewing, mechanical fastening, thermal bonding etc. These include the ability to bind different materials together, to distribute stress more efficiently across the joint, the cost effectiveness of an easily mechanized process, an improvement in aesthetic design, and increased design flexibility. Disadvantages of adhesive use include decreased stability at high temperatures, relative weakness in bonding large objects with a small bonding surface area, and greater difficulty in separating objects during testing. Adhesives are typically organized by the method of adhesion. These are then organized into reactive and non-reactive adhesives, which refers to whether the adhesive chemically react in order to harden.

Our range of putties and adhesives consists of products based on polyester (Crystic), methyl methacrylate (Crestabond), urethane-acrylate (Crestomer), polyurethane (SikaForce & SikaFast) and epoxy (Resoltech & Composite C-Patch). With these type of adhesives many type of materials can be bonded: FRP (composites), metals (even galvanized and zinc plated), plastics (even some polyolefins), wood, stone, concrete, etc.

  • Acrylic

    Crestabond® Structural Adhesive

Castro Composites offer you the whole range of Crestabond acrylic adhesives. Scott Bader has invested significantly in recent years to successfully develop Crestabond; a range of market leading primer-less structural adhesives. They have been designed for bonding a wide range of dissimilar substrates including metals and plastics as well as composite materials for industrial applications. Crestabond is a patented methylmethacrylate adhesive with excellent adhesive properties being successfully used by many companies all over the world operating in the marine, wind energy, building and construction, land transportation and vehicles industries.

Castro Composites distributes the whole wind energy products range fro SIKA. SikaFast are fast curing, flexibilised structural adhesives designed to replace mechanical fixings such as rivets, screws or welding. SikaFast is suitable for high strength fastening of concealed joints and exhibits excellent adhesion on different types of substrates including composites, plastics, glass, wood, metals, etc. This product is recommended for professional experienced users only. Tests with actual substrates and conditions have to be performed to ensure adhesion and material compatibility.

  • Polyurethane

Polyurethane adhesives are those glues that are made of urethane polymers with chemical based of isocyanate group also known as elastic adhesives, due they have an extraordinary elasticity and elongation before the fracture occurs (up to 600%), and also like epoxy adhesives exist rigid polyurethane adhesives, due to the high fracture resistance presented by these adhesives about 25 MPa.

The elastic polyurethane adhesives are cured by polyaddition reactions, taking on a slightly reticulated structure with properties of an elastomer material; rigid polyurethane adhesives are as well as cure by polyaddition but they also acquire a high crosslink structure of thermoset material.

There are 3 different types of polyurethane adhesives or glues:

    • 2 component Polyurethane adhesives (Pur 2C)

    • 1 component Polyurethane adhesives curing by heat (Pur 1C - heat) - Rigid polyurethane

    • 1 component Polyurethane adhesives curing by moisture (Pur 1C - moisture) - Elastic polyurethane

  • Epoxy

Multipurpose epoxy adhesive systems. Ideal for bonding most materials together or to each other: wood, composites, steel, aluminium, concrete, plastics, etc. They are available in easy to use cartridges or in larger packaging.

    Composite patch©

Composite Patch adhesives are essential for underwater or low temperature repairs. Used to repair severely damaged and mechanically risky surfaces.

  • Urethane-acrylate

CRYSTIC Crestomer® are cost effective high performance, tough and flexible adhesives based on urethane acrylate chemistry. Elongation to break >100%.

Crestomer adhesives show low exotherm during curing and are very easy to apply.

Standard MEKP catalyst are used to cure them.

  • Polyester

    Polyester Bonding Pastes
We market a good range of orthophthalic and isophthalic bonding pastes to suit all non-structural applications. These cheaper polyester putties are very convenient when not so demanding performances must be achieved.

  • TensorGrip® Natural...

Adhesives from the TensorGrip® range are recommended to bond plywood or MDF, polystyrene or EPS foams, FRP/GRP composites, aluminum/metal sheets, standard laminates, plastics, carpets, synthetic leather, fabrics or to maintain reinforcement fabrics (glass, carbon, aramid, etc.) in place during infusion processes.

TensorGrip® range consists of polyurethane adhesives on the one hand and on the other, an extensive range of natural rubber based adhesives.

Natural rubber adhesive is one of the earliest substances used to bond materials. Because of its capacity to become elastic when heated, it is one of the most popular adhesives, and is typically used in bonding organic and porous materials like leather, synthetic leather, wood, paper, fabrics, as well as other rubber products. Adhesive rubber also offers water-resistant properties, flexibility, and versatility, making it a good choice for reinforcing the backing of carpets and floor rugs.

The flexibility provided by natural rubber adhesives, along with the multiple viscosities that can be formulated using these materials, also make them ideal general-purpose adhesives.

We offer wide range of TensorGrip® natural rubber based formulations for a variety of applications. Our range offers a broad spectrum of high performance, high quality canister solutions that meet the specific needs of many industry sectors.

We’ve spent years assessing the production processes within various industries to ensure that TensorGrip® offers optimum levels of performance, and we believe the results speak for themselves.

Don’t just take our word for it though – consider the following benefits on top of the above:

    • Suitable for use on a wide range of materials
    • Cost efficient
    • Fast drying
    • Easy application control
