In the field of thermosetting resins with monomer (unsaturated polyester, vinyl ester and urethane-acrylate resins) the peroxide is a substance added to resins or gel coats in controlled quantities to cause gelation and crosslinking. The catalyst reacts with the accelerator, thereby creating free radicals that, in turn, initiate polymerization.
The most comon of all is the MEKP (methyl ethyl ketone peroxide), although there are many others:dibenzoyl peroxide, cumyl, acetyl acetone, cyclohexanone, etc.
Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide Catalyst for unsaturated polyester and vinyl ester resins . It is generally added at 1,5% and 2.5% by weight rates to the resins.
Luperox® K12G is a Methyl Ethyl Ketone Peroxide phthalate free. In ortho- and isophthalic resins, Luperox® K12G gives long gel time and is therefe particularly recommended for the manufacture of very large molded pieces when the room temperature is elevated.
White, free-flowing powder, consisting of 50% dibenzoyl peroxide, desensitised with a phthalic acid ester .This diaroyl peroxide is used as an initiator (radical source) in the curing of unsaturated polyester and methacrylate resins .Main application: curing of castings and moulded parts at ambient temperature in combination with amine accelerators,...
