Primers for composites, moulds and substrates
Primers for preparing surfaces before laminating, coating or finishing. Compare polyester, epoxy and aerosol systems according to the substrate and the product to be applied afterwards.
What to consider when choosing
Primers for patterns and laminates
To prepare a timber, MDF or glass-fibre pattern before making a mould, Crystic Primecoat provides a sandable surface; Duratec 707-002 is also described for foam and composite prototypes. When the aim is to bond a polyester laminate to cement, concrete or timber, the flexible primer serves that purpose. Compare these polyester primers by substrate and use, not chemical base alone.
Preparation before painting or repair
Among epoxy primers, AntiPest is intended for marine substrates before polyurethane or antifouling coatings, and Resolcoat 3010T/3014T for fairing boat surfaces. Resoltech 1010/1014 includes uses on timber and cement or concrete floors. For bare metal, Quick Wash Primer is listed among the aerosol primers for metals, with a specific restriction: do not apply polyester-based products over it.
