Honeycomb cores
Honeycomb cores create sandwich parts using a cellular structure. This selection brings together polypropylene and Nomex aramid honeycombs intended for different processes and parts in composite manufacture.
What to consider when choosing
Aramid or polypropylene in a cellular core
Panels, floors and transport components
Polypropylene references cover interior panels, floors, bulkheads and hatches, with applications in sea and land transport or construction. Grid-cut formats have a different configuration from continuous sheets.
Nomex aramid for sandwich parts
Over-expanded aramid honeycombs are specified in the catalogue for prepreg manufacture. Although both have a cellular structure, their construction and processing differ from those of polypropylene honeycomb.
Selecting the core, skins and bond
Review the material, configuration, thickness and method of bonding to the part's skins. To compare alternative constructions, browse the other sandwich cores for composites. Suitability depends on the complete assembly, not just the core alone.
