Mould and model preparation
Products for preparing the surfaces of master models and composite moulds. Find sandable coatings, polishing compounds, tools and accessories for preparing the finish before moulding.
What to consider when choosing
Preparing a pattern before making the mould
A timber, MDF or glass-fibre pattern may need levelling and finishing before the mould is taken. Crystic Primecoat is a sandable primer for these substrates; Duratec 707-002 is described for timber, foam and composite patterns and prototypes. Duratec 1902-045 vinyl ester topcoat is intended for a high-gloss finish on patterns and moulds. Choose the coating according to the substrate and the surface you need to reproduce.
Sanding, polishing and release
To remove marks and refine the finish, combine sanders and abrasives with a compound and pad suited to the job. Grit, backing-pad diameter and pad type matter as much as the machine. Finishing and polishing products refine the surface; sealers and release agents then serve a different purpose: preparing separation between pattern, mould and part.
