What to consider when choosing

Which fibre combination should you choose?

The selection is divided by the materials combined: carbon with aramid or Innegra, glass with aramid, and glass with carbon. Construction also varies; find fabrics, multiaxials and combinations with glass fibre mat.

One fibre combination does not automatically offer the same properties as another. Check the data sheet for layer arrangement, intended process and resin system. For tubular shapes, check that you are selecting a sleeve rather than a flat fabric.

Applications and material selection

For canoes, kayaks, car or motorcycle parts and sporting equipment, hybrid carbon fibre and Innegra fabrics describe uses where impact matters. For carbon combined with aramid, hybrid carbon fibre and aramid fabrics offer plain and twill constructions for hand lay-up, infusion or RTM.

The catalogue's hybrid glass fibre and aramid fabrics include glass fibre mat and are described for impact-resistant parts; compare their layers. Hybrid glass and carbon fibre fabrics offer multiaxial constructions where each material may occupy different directions.

Buy the combination matching the laminate, not simply the fabric colour. Total areal weight does not explain each fibre's proportion or orientation.
