Glass fabrics for model making, marine parts and moulds

Silionne fabrics describe model-making, automotive and sporting applications; certain references include windsurfing and kitesurfing. Compare areal weight, width and construction with the layers the part requires instead of treating all fine fabrics as equivalent.

For marine parts, woven rovings offer another construction. The plain-weave glass fibre fabric documents this use and general composite manufacture. UTE fabrics, plain or twill depending on the reference, are described for parts and moulds; geometry, layer arrangement and resin system complete the selection.

Dry fabric needs impregnation during manufacture. For hand lay-up compare epoxy laminating resins and verify the specific combination. If the project calls for glass fibre mat, select that format: it is not another name for fabric and does not automatically perform the same role.

To choose the resin for your laminate, browse polyester resins for hand lay-up or, for epoxy projects, epoxy resins for hand lay-up and epoxy resins for infusion and RTM. Check the technical data sheets for the reinforcement fibres and the resin to confirm that both materials suit the planned process; these selections do not imply compatibility between all their products.
