Bleeder fabrics for vacuum processing
Vacuum breather and bleeder fabrics are used in laminate consolidation and prepreg processes to manage excess resin and air evacuation. The range includes polyester fabrics and systems combined with other process layers.
What to consider when choosing
Resin absorption and vacuum distribution
Absorption and the air path
The consumable forms part of the stack beneath the vacuum bag. Its role and position should be assessed with the bleeder or release film and the part's manufacturing procedure, not solely by the fabric's apparent thickness.
Single-layer fabrics and combined consumables
Some references integrate peel ply, perforated film and absorbent fabric, alongside microporous systems for specific assemblies. These constructions are not interchangeable without checking the layers each includes and their behaviour over the mould geometry.
Considering the next operation
When the part will be bonded, painted or laminated again, check whether the stack includes peel ply and how it is removed. Final selection depends on the resin and working cycle described for each consumable.
