Crestamould Essentials 4005PA – Resin for mould manufacture

Crestamould Essentials 4005PA is a resin for mould manufacture developed to provide improved handling and better cured properties than standard orthophthalic resins. Its low viscosity helps with the wet-out of heavyweight reinforcements, while its formulation helps reduce shrinkage and improve mould dimensional accuracy.

It is especially suitable for hand lay-up applications and is catalysed with MEKP. Its main advantages include low exotherm, faster laminate build-up and the ability to manufacture small and medium-sized moulds in a single day, helping to save both time and cost.

It has a viscosity of 5.0 poise at 25 ºC, a specific gravity of 1.27, a volatile content of 27% and a gel time of 30 minutes. It also offers good mechanical properties and high dimensional accuracy, making it a suitable solution for the manufacture of composite moulds.

Main advantages

  • Low viscosity for easier wet-out of heavyweight reinforcements.
  • Low shrinkage for greater mould dimensional accuracy.
  • Low exotherm and faster laminate build-up.
  • Suitable for manufacturing small and medium-sized moulds in a single day.
  • Suitable for hand lay-up application.

Application

Designed for hand lay-up applications. A minimum workshop temperature of 18 ºC is recommended, with an ideal range of 20 ºC to 24 ºC. Mix thoroughly before use.

Catalysing and supply

According to the manufacturer’s technical data sheet, the recommended dosage is 1% MEKP catalyst based on the weight of the resin. This means that the amount of catalyst to be added must always be calculated according to the actual amount of resin being used.

IMPORTANT: For packaging reasons, this product is supplied with double the amount of catalyst compared with the theoretical 1% dosage.

Do not add all of the supplied catalyst to the resin container. Only use the amount required according to the recommended 1% MEKP ratio.

Before using the product, read the technical data sheet carefully and adjust the catalyst dosage correctly according to the amount of resin used and the working conditions.

Supply formats

  • 1 kg of resin + 20 g of MEKP catalyst
  • 5 kg of resin + 100 g of MEKP catalyst
  • 25 kg of resin + 500 g of MEKP catalyst
  • 225 kg of resin + 4.5 kg of MEKP catalyst

Recommended guideline dosage

  • 1 kg of resin: add 10 g of MEKP
  • 5 kg of resin: add 50 g of MEKP
  • 25 kg of resin: add 250 g of MEKP
  • 225 kg of resin: add 2.25 kg of MEKP

Important

The amount of catalyst supplied in each format is greater than the recommended usage amount. The guideline dosage indicated in the technical data sheet is 1% MEKP based on the resin. Always refer to the technical data sheet before application.
