Crystic Topcoat 65PAX is a pre-accelerated, isophthalic topcoat. It has been formulated for brush application and is available in a restricted range of colours. The information contained in this technical datasheet also applies to these pigmented versions.

Crystic Topcoat 65PAX is designed for use where a smooth finish is required on the reverse side of a laminate.

Crystic Topcoat 65PAX has low styrene emission. It is not air inhibited, and produces a matt finish.

Crystic Topcoat 65PAX should be allowed to attain workshop temperature (18 ºC - 20 ºC) before use. Stir well by hand, or with a low shear mixer to avoid aeration, and then allow to stand to regain thixotropy. Crystic Topcoat 65PAX requires only the addition of catalyst to start the curing reaction. The recommended catalyst is Butanox M50 (or other equivalent catalyst), which should be added at 2% into the topcoat. (Please consult our Technical Service Department if other catalysts are to be used). The catalyst should be thoroughly incorporated into the topcoat, with a low shear mechanical stirrer where possible.

Gel time at 20 ºC: 15 minutes

Deflection Temperature Under Load (1.80 MPa): 75 ºC.

Hello, I have bought a bottle of topcoat to be applied with a roller and I have painted some panels of the boat and I would like to give a second coat, where I bought it I asked them and they told me to apply acetone first and to give it another coa ...

We recommend sanding before applying a second coat. Ideally, you should do it with a thicker sandpaper, 320-400, so that it generates a good mechanical anchor. Leaving a completely mark-free finish is complex, so once that second coat is dry you will have to sand, polish and polish. At that point you can start with a 600-800 or even 1000, it all depends on how you finished.

I would like to paint my boat with a new gelcoat. He still has his old gelcoat completely. I want to repaint it.

A gelcoat should not be applied over an old gelcoat as it will peel off over time. Even if you sand the old gelcoat. To apply a gelcoat/topcota, you would need to remove the old gelcoat and then apply a new resin and fiber laminate. Another option  would be to sand the old gelcoat, then apply an epoxy primer and finally 2-3 coats of 100 g/m2 each of a high-resistance polyurethane paint.
